The construction pictured here was done starting in the summer
of 2006. Building the railroad was only one project of several,
some of which were inter-related. The concrete in the driveway
was replaced. The old concrete was broken into pieces and was
used in the stream bed for the pond, the railroad, some flower
beds, and a firepit. Dirt from the pond was used for fill in
the driveway and in some flower beds, and hills for the tunnels.
My garden was on the garden tour for the North American Lily
Society International Show so some of the projects had to be
completed by July 15, the day of the tour. The Captown loop of
the railroad had to be operational. Since the railroad encircles
the pond, the pictures start with the layout of the pond and
first loop of track around it. The view perspective in most
pictures is looking south from the back of my house. The lot
(actually 2 city lots end-to-end) is about 100 ft wide and 270
ft deep. The track plan shows about one fourth of the total area.
