One of my early garden railroad equipment purchases was Aristocraft's Wedge Snowplow. That works good. I have pictures elsewhere showing it in operation. Then I saw pictures of rotary snowplows and decided that it would be fun to build and operate one. I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Marty Cozad at the East Coast Large Scale Train Show in York, PA. He answered some questions and got me going on the right track. Thanks, Marty.
The platform for my rotary is an Aristocraft FB-1, a powered B unit. I found an undecorated one on eBay. A friend gave me an old battery operated drill. The variable speed trigger will be a speed control. The motor from that will drive the fan. The fan is a Kirby vacuum cleaner replacement fan. I would like to find a fan with straight fins but so far have not located one yet. That would permit bidirectional rotation. The fan housing is a piece of PVC pipe coupling. I had a new battery pack made for me at Batteries Plus; 12 volts, 2100 mah.
Using some metal pieces on hand I made mounting brackets for the motor, fan, battery, and speed control. The fan housing was fastened to a piece of hardboard which was fastened to the motor bracket assembly. The fan was connected directly to the drill chuck using a long machine screw.
